Telescoping Card Tutorial

Hi, everyone! This is a tutorial for my Telescoping Card that I made for this month's Scor-Pal More Than One Score Challenge - Fall/Harvest or Halloween.  You have until the end of the month to enter and you could win a $25 gift certificate to the Scor-Pal store!

I found this card design in the Die-cutting Essentials magazine. It looked like a fun card to make, so I thought I would give it a try.

To make this card, I used the following supplies:

White cardstock
Gina K. Designs (GKD) Red Velvet cardstock
GKD Give Thanks Patterned Paper
Cottage Cutz Square Stitched dies and Circle Stitched dies
GKD Honey Mustard cardstock
GKD Give Thanks stamp set and coordinating dies
GKD Autumn Wreath Builder stamp set
GKD Honey Mustard, Warm Cocoa ink
clear embossing powder, ribbon

Cut four 11" x 2" pieces from white cardstock. Using your Scor-Pal, score each one at 2", 4", 6", 8" and 10", then accordion fold.

Cut twenty 1 7/8" square pieces from the red cardstock, and sixteen 1 3/4" square pieces from the patterned paper. I used two designs from the patterned paper.

I just laid the papers on the cardstock for the picture, but you'll want to tape them onto the middle of the red squares! Tape a plain red square onto the middle of each of the folded strips, and the decorated squares onto the other sections.

Cut two 6" square pieces from white cardstock. Tape the 4 strips to the bottom of one of the squares, one in the middle of each side, and then tape the other square over them.

From a different piece of patterned paper, cut a 5 3/4" square piece and layer it onto a 5 7/8" square piece of red cardstock. Tape this onto the top of the white square. With the square dies, cut a frame from white cardstock and add it to the middle of the patterned paper. Cut a smaller square from white, add a sentiment, and attach it inside the frame.

Cut a 2 1/2" square from white cardstock and trim it down to make a cross. Cut two circles from the red cardstock and a smaller circle from patterned paper. Layer these on top of the cross and punch a hole in the middle. Thread a piece of ribbon through the hole, attach it on the back, and cover it with the other red circle.

Tape the cross to the end of the four panels, centering it on the underside of the panels. Decorate the center red square on each panel.

This is the view from the top, with the card collapsed down.

Here is a view showing the sentiment inside.

I hope you will give this a try. It makes a showy card and was fun to make!

  1. Beautiful design and card layout. I have decided that I will not even attempt more interactive cards anymore. I am content to be a CAS card maker but I sure do love the card you created. It is amazing and a great tutorial too.
