May Scor-Pal project

My project this month is an Interlocking Fancy Fold card. I learned this fold from Gina K, and you can watch her YouTube video Here.

It opens up from the sides to reveal the inside panel.

To make this card, you will need:

Cardstock: 5 1/2" x 10 3/4" for the card base
                   2 1/4" x 3 1/4" and 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" for the 2 front panels
                   2 3/8" x 3 3/8" and 2 7/8" x 3 7/8" for the 2 front layers (I used black)
                   3 1/2" x 4 3/4" for the inside panel
                   3 5/8" x 4 7/8" for the inside layer (I used black)
Foam tape or squares
Stamps and embellishments to decorate (I used Gina K. Designs products: Harvest Flourish stencil with Sandy Beach ink for the pattern on the pieces, Sending Love stamp set with Obsidian Amalgam ink for the front sentiment, Watercolor Floral Ephemera pack for the flowers and leaves, Peaceful Violets and Happy Bouquet stamp sets with Obsidian Amalgam ink for the inside sentiment along with the Happy die with shadow layer)

Step 1:

Using the cardstock for the card base, place the 10 3/4" side at the top of your Scor-Pal and
score at 1 5/8" and 9 1/8". Turn the cardstock over and score at 3 1/4" and 7 1/2".

Step 2:

Decorate your inside and outside panels, and tape them to the coordinating layers.

Step 3:

Fold your card base along the score lines, hiding the bump inside. Tape the inside panel in the middle of the card base.

Step 4:

Tape the larger panel on the left hand side of the card base, making sure to apply tape only to the left side of the panel. Place it so the panel covers the top of the inside panel.

For the smaller panel, line it up where you want it to be, covering the bottom of the inside panel. Make a small pencil mark on the card base at the right edge of the panel, remove the panel and place some foam squares or tape on the card base. This will lift the panel so that the left panel can slip underneath when the card is closed. Erase the pencil mark.

Step 5:

Decorate the panels. You could decorate the inside panel before you attach it, since it will be flat.

When you are decorating the front of the card, make sure that you only attach items to the panels or you won't be able to open the card!

When you close the card, the left panel will slip between the right panel and the folded card base.

Sunbird Spark Challenge #59

I'm getting in just under the wire for this month's challenge at Sunbird Spark. We have a Spring Moodboard to give us inspiration.

I came up with this card.

I used the
Geometric Arts stamp set and coordinating dies to make the patterned hexagons. Then, I cut a piece of cardstock using the Hexagon Geo cover die. I used this as a guide to place my hexagons and removed it once the hexagons were glued in place on the green cardstock. This was attached to a white card base.

The sentiment is from the Birthday Wishes stamp set, cut out with the coordinating die and popped up with some foam tape.

April Scor-Pal Project

Easter is this month, so I am sharing my Easter card. It is quite easy to make, and uses part of the folded card base as the upright of the cross.

To make this card, you will need:

Cardstock: 5 1/2” x 8 1/4”, for the card base
3 3/4" x 1 1/4", for the cross bar (same colour as the card base)
                   2 1/2” x 5 1/4”, for the inside
Patterned paper: 1 1/8" x 5 3/8", for the cross upright
                            3 5/8" x 1 1/8", for the cross bar
(I used Dovecraft Collections Garden Party paper pack)
Stamp and ink to decorate the card base (I used Gina K. Designs Petite Flourish background
stamp with Lovely Lavender, then Wild Lilac ink)
Stamps, dies, for the rest of the card (I used Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps Jesus Paid It All stamp
set, 1 1/2” Circle punch, 1 3/4” scalloped circle punch

Step 1:
For the card base: With the 8 1/4" side of the cardstock at the top of your Scor-Pal, score at
4 1/4”, flip it over and score at 7”. This is to make it easy to fold the card base in two different directions.

Step 2:
Stamp your decoration on the front of the card, between the two score lines, and on the inside of the card. Fold along the score lines, hiding the bump inside the fold.

Step 3:
Tape the patterned paper to the front flap to form the cross upright. Tape patterned paper to the cross bar cardstock and then tape it to the cross upright, making sure to only add tape in the middle of the bar.

Step 4:
Decorate the inside cardstock and tape it to the left hand side so it doesn't show when the card is closed.

When I was making this card, I first stamped the background with Lovely Lavender ink. It showed up fine at first, but as I worked on the card I noticed it was fading. By the time I finished the card, it had completely disappeared! The ink colour was too light and showed up when it was wet, but when it dried it didn't. So, I used Wild Lilac ink and stamped the background again, masking off the areas that I didn't want inked.
I took the pictures under different light conditions, so even though the finished card looks like a completely different colour, it is the same card!

Spring Card

The Gina K. Designs Monthly Mix Challenge for March is called Signs of Spring. Here is the card I made.

I started by ink blending a background, using Medium Orchid, Blue Sky, Lucky Clover, and Lemon Drop ink.

I cut out the top layer with a die from Master Layouts 11, and used the Tapestry embossing folder to emboss the design.

Using the top layer as a guide, I stamped the images and sentiment from the Natural Silhouettes stamp set on the background, using Obsidian Amalgam ink.

I added the top layer to the background and attached this to a white card base.

Sunbird Spark Challenge #58

For the Sunbird Spark Challenge this month, we have a sketch.

I followed the sketch fairly closely to make this card:

I used the Sunbird Spark Timeless Tulips stamp set, stencils and die for the focal image. I love how the stencils give a realistic look to the tulips.

The sentiment is from the Magnolia Beauty stamp set, and I used the coordinating die to cut it out.

The pattern on the lower triangle was made with the Peacock Accent Stencils 360°. I used it freehand, and kept stencilling until I filled up the space.

March Scor-Pal project

This month, I have a card with a pop-up feature when it is opened.

To make this card, you will need:

Cardstock: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" heavy weight for card base
                  8 1/4" x 5 1/4" lighter weight for inside layer
Patterned paper: 6" x 5" for inside
Images to pop up (I used Gina K. Designs Woodland Friends stamp set and coordinating dies,
coloured with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers)
Decorations for the front and inside of the card (For the front, I used Gina K. Designs Harvest
Flourish stencil with Lovely Lavender ink for the background, and the Happy Birthday
to You stamp set for the balloons and sentiment. For the inside I used Penguin Palace
(now Sunbird Spark) Birthday Wishes stamp set with coordinating dies.)

Step 1

With the long side of the 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock at the top of your Scor-Pal, score at
   4 1/4".
With the long side of the 8 1/4" x 5 1/4" piece of cardstock at the top of your Scor-Pal, score at
   4 1/8".
The picture below shows the patterned paper. Place the paper with the patterned side down and
the 6" side at the top, and score at 4".

Step 2

Fold along the score lines of the patterned paper and the inside cardstock layer, placing the bump on the inside of the fold. Tape the patterned paper to the cardstock layer, matching the score lines.

Place the images that you want popped up where you want them, and make 2 small pencil marks for each image. This is where you will make the cuts for the pop-up feature.

Step 3

Make cuts through both layers where you have made the marks. I made mine about 1 1/4" long, centered over the score line. From the back, push between the 2 cuts for each image to the inside of the card. This will give you a step shape that you will attach your shape to.

Step 4

Add any stamping to the inside layer. To attach the inside layer to the card base, place Scor-Tape around the front edge of the inside piece, but don't go all the way to the score line. This will help the card to open properly.

I found that the easiest way to attach the layers was to place the inside layer and the card base together, fold it up, then carefully open the top while holding the bottom in place. Remove the tape liner, fold down the top, and press to adhere the tape. Turn the card over and repeat with the other side.

Step 5

Tape the images onto the pop-up steps. Attach any die cut embellishments to the inside and add your decoration to the front of the card.

February 2026 Scor-Pal project

Here is a fun fold card that is perfect for Valentine's Day!

To make this card, you will need:
Cardstock: 8 1/2" x 11" for the base
                   4" x 5 1/4" for the inside
stamps, patterned paper, etc. to decorate (I used the ColorBox stencil - Lovely, VersaMark ink and white embossing powder for the front, Gina K. Designs Sketched Wreath Builder, Square Pegs, and Follow Your Dreams stamp sets, and Red Hot ink for the inside)

Step 1
With the 11" side of the base piece of cardstock, score at 5 1/2". Rotate the cardstock 90 degrees and score at 4 1/4". Holding the cardstock with the short side at the top, cut off the top right rectangle. Cut diagonally from the center of the left hand side up to the top right corner. Then cut from the bottom right hand corner to the middle of the cardstock, where the score lines meet. You will end up with a shape like this:

Step 2
Turn the cardstock over and fold along the score lines. Fold the bottom flap in first and then the top flap down.

Step 3
Use the two triangle pieces that you cut off to decorate the two flaps. You can also use a different colour of cardstock or patterned paper. If you want a small border, you can trim a bit off the two straight sides of the triangles.

Step 4
To find where to stamp the sentiment, place the small piece of cardstock inside the card base, and lightly make a pencil mark along the edge of the flaps. Remove the small piece of cardstock and stamp your sentiment and any other stamping you want to do. Erase the pencil mark when you are finished stamping.

Step 5
Tape the inside piece in place and the triangle pieces on the flaps. Add any embellishments that you wish. I added a bit of bling around the sentiment. The card will stand up with the flaps slightly open.

December Scor-Pal Project

I always need a few boxes for Christmas presents, and this one is a quick and easy one to make.

It opens like a pizza box and holds a small, flat gift. The finished dimension is 4" square and 1" tall.

To make this box you will need:
Cardstock: 1 piece 6" x 11"
Patterned paper: 2 pieces 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"
                            4 pieces 3/4" x 3 3/4"
Any other embellishments you wish to add

Step 1:

With the 11" side at the top, score at 1", 5", 6" and 10". Turn the cardstock 90° and score at 1" and 5". Cut along the score lines as shown in the picture below. I slant my cut lines slightly to make a narrow V shape and find it easier to fold and tape the box. Fold along all the score lines.

Step 2:

Add Scor-Tape to the 4 end tabs, and tape your patterned paper onto the box as shown below. The end with the paper on all of the sides will be the top of your box.

Step 3:

Remove the tape liner from one end, fold the flaps in, and attach the tabs to the inside of the side flaps. Repeat with the other end.

The outside of the box.

Your box is finished and ready for you to add your gift.

November Scor-Pal project

My sister gave me a birthday card using this design, and I liked it so much that I made one for my friend's birthday.

It has rails like a horizontal fence in the front and stands open like a box. Here is a view from the top.

To make this card, you will need the following supplies:
Cardstock: 1 piece 4 1/4" x 9"
                   4 pieces 3/4" x 9"
Patterned paper: 1 piece 1 5/8" x 4 1/8"
                           4 pieces 5/8" x 3 5/8"
Other patterned paper or embossed cardstock: 1 piece 1 5/8" x 4 1/8"
                                                                           4 pieces 5/8" x 1 5/8"
Decorations and embellishments: I used Gina K. Designs items unless otherwise specified.
      Patterned paper: Give Thanks
      Embossing folder: Tapestry
Flower: Zenflowers stamp set and dies
Back tree: Autumn Wishes stamp set
Sentiment: Happy Birthday to You stamp set
Ink: Warm Cocoa, Red Hot, Chocolate Truffle Amalgam

Spectrum Noir alcohol markers
      VersaMark ink
brown cardstock, circle die, clear embossing powder from my stash

Step 1:
For the cardstock, with the 9" side at the top of your Scor-Pal, score each piece at 1 3/4" and       3 1/2". On the large piece, make a mountain fold at the 1 3/4" score line and a valley fold at the     3 1/2" line. For the small pieces, make a valley fold at the 1 3/4" line and a mountain fold at the     3 1/2" line.

Step 2:
Turn each piece over. On the large piece, add Scor-Tape to the left hand side up to the first fold. To space out the tape, make a small mark at 1 1/4" and 2 3/8" from the top. Then place the Scor-Tape so that it just covers each mark. Then place one piece at the top and one piece at the bottom. For the small pieces, rotate them so the score lines are on the right, and add Scor-Tape on the right hand side.

Step 3:
Turn the pieces back over, remove the top piece of tape liner from the large piece and attach the first small piece, lining up the top and left edge. Lay the small piece flat against the top of the large piece and hold it in place while you bend back the right hand flap and remove the tape liner. Then fold the flap back and press it onto the large piece. I attached the bottom piece next so I could line it up with the bottom. For the middle two pieces, use the tape as a guide and place them in between so they are all evenly spaced.

Step 4:
Add Scor-Tape to the back of your patterned paper pieces. I decided to use an embossing folder to make a pattern on my cardstock for the second paper option. If you like to have a continuing pattern, line up your pieces so you keep track of where they go.

Step 5:
Tape the pieces onto the card base.

Step 6:
Decorate as desired. You can put a message on the back of the card. The card folds flat and fits in an A2 sized envelope (4 1/4" x 5 1/2").
