June Scor-Pal Project

This month, my card is a Swing Flap fun fold. The front looks like this:

And the card opens to show this:

To make this card, you will need:
Cardstock: 1 piece 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2" for the card base
                   1 piece 5 1/4″ x 7 7/8″ for the swing mechanism
Die to cut a window approximately 2 1/2" x 3 3/4" (I used the Prism studio nesting die set: stitched rectangles, 3rd from middle for the window)
Gold Foil cardstock slightly smaller than the window (I just trimmed it by hand)
Patterned paper slightly smaller than the gold foil rectangle (I used Stampin’ Up! Sunny Garden DSP, and the 2nd die from the middle in the Prism Studio set)
Plain or patterned paper for the outside trim 5 1/4" x 4", with a window in the middle slightly bigger than the original window (I used Stampin’ Up! Sunny Garden DSP, and the 4th die from the middle in the Prism Studio set)
Stamps and sentiments to decorate your card ( I used Stampin' Up! Cottage Garden stamp set for the flowers on the outside, stamped with Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Certainly Celery inkGina K. Designs Lovely Flowers and Holiday Frame Fillers stamp sets for the inside sentiments, stamped with Stampin' Up! Peach Parfait ink)

Step 1:

With the 8 1/2" side at the top, score the card base at 4 1/4".

With the 7 7/8" side at the top, score the swing mechanism at 2", 4" and 6". Make a valley fold at the 2" score and mountain folds at the 4" and 6" score lines.

Step 2:

Die cut a window in the front of the card base, approximately 2 1/2" x 3 3/4". Cut a slightly smaller piece of gold foil cardstock and one a bit smaller than that from patterned paper. These can be cut with a die or by hand, and will be the focal image.

Step 3:

On the swing mechanism, you will notice that one end is 2" wide and the other is 1 7/8" wide. Place the 2" side at the right, and stamp a sentiment on the 2" part of the cardstock.

Add Scor-Tape to the back of the 2" section and attach it to the right hand side of the card base. (If you want, you can add a piece of patterned paper on the card base before you tape down the swing mechanism.)

Step 4:

Fold the two sections on the left over toward the right and apply Scor-Tape to the left-most section only. Apply the tape in a C-shaped fashion, avoiding the right side of this section by the score line, to go around the window opening.

Remove the tape liner, hold the swing mechanism flat, and close the front of the card to secure the tape.

Step 5:

Tape the three pieces of the focal image together.

Place Scor-Tape on the right hand side of the cardstock visible through the window.

Remove the tape liner and attach the focal image.

This is what it will look like from above.

Step 6:

Add Scor-Tape to the front trim and attach it to the front of the card.

Step 7:

Decorate as you wish. I added a couple of flowers to the front of the card.

I used this design for a Mother's Day card, but obviously you can use different colours and sentiments to make it for any occasion.
