Ink Blended Basket Weave

Someone I know got engaged on Christmas Day. I received the Gina K. Designs Basket Weave Cover Plate Die for Christmas and thought it would make a wonderful Congratulations card.

I started by ink blending on a piece of white cardstock. Then I used the die to cut the pattern, making sure to save all the pieces. I also used the die on a plain piece of white cardstock, again saving all the pieces.

I covered a piece of cardstock with adhesive, placed the white background in the middle and added the ink blended frame. The ink blended pieces had all stayed in the background, so I just had to place the ink blended background over the white one and pushed each piece into the appropriate spot. Since there was adhesive on the bottom layer, the pieces stayed in place.

I stamped the sentiment, added it to a piece of black cardstock and attached it to the front of the card. I didn't want to add anything else over the nice background.

I was able to make another card front by using all the left over pieces and created a reverse image.

I had a hard time deciding which one I wanted to use for this card!

Partial Die Cutting

I started by ink blending with Gina K. Designs inks: Blue Lagoon, Blue Raspberry, Blue Denim, and In the Navy. Then I stamped the snowflakes with VersaMark ink and heat embossed them with silver embossing powder. I stamped the sentiment with VersaMark ink and heat embossed it in white. The snowflakes and sentiment are from the Gina K. Designs Sparkling Snowflake stamp set.

I was inspired by Jennifer McGuire and did some partial die cutting along the two edges. I taped the coordinating dies onto the snowflakes on one edge and ran it through my die cutting machine with only part of the die under the cutting plate. The first time, I put the wrong part in, but luckily it just left an impression and didn't cut all the way through! So, I had to do the same thing on the other side.

Once I had both sides cut, I used a craft knife and a ruler to cut in between the snowflakes and to the edges of the side. I added the panel to a white card base and the card was finished. I thought of adding some embellishments, but I felt that there was enough sparkle with the silver embossing powder.

December More Than One Score Scor-Pal challenge

Where did this year go? I can't believe that it's time for the next Scor-Pal More Than One Score challenge, the last one of 2021! This month, the theme is Any Holiday, or you can make an Anything Goes project as long as it follows the general rules.

Each month we will have a different theme and you will have a month to create and enter your projects. As well as the theme you will need to make "More Than One Score" and tell us where you used the Scor-Pal on your project. So a single fold card won't count but an Easel, Gatefold, Stair Step, etc, will :) Also we love to see your "Anything But a Card" projects, just as long as you make "More Than One Score".

I decided to make a luminary, using a die from the Scor-Pal store.

I used:
cardstock for the base - 1 piece 8" x 8 1/2" and 1 piece 8" x 5 1/2"
vellum
patterned paper to decorate
battery powered light

For the 8" x 8 1/2" piece, place the 8" side at the top of your Scor-Pal and score at 3 3/4" and 7 1/2". Turn it 90 degrees to the right, and score at 3 3/4". Then score at 3" down to the first score line. Here is a template for that piece.

Cut along the solid lines, removing the parts marked with an X. For the windows, cut at 3/4" from the score lines and the edges of the paper.

For the smaller piece of cardstock, with the 8" side at the top, score at 3 3/4" and 7 1/2". Turn 90 degrees to the left and score at 4 3/4".

As before, cut along the solid lines and cut out the windows. Add your die cut pieces and vellum to the inside of the windows. Fold along all the score lines, and tape the two pieces together with the side tabs. Fold in the bottom tabs and tape the bottom to them.

You can either add patterned paper before you fold it, or after. I didn't have enough to cut out the windows, so I cut strips to cover the various parts.

This is what it looks like with a light in it.

We hope to see some of your creations, as you might win a gift certificate to the Scor-Pal store!
