Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there! Here is the card that I made for my sons to give to my husband. I am entering it in the Gina K. Designs Monthly Mix Challenge - It's All About The Background.

Gina showed this technique of making sections with masking paper, and then using different colours of ink in the sections. I made three sections and coloured them to represent sand, sea and sky.

The stencil I used is called Harvest Flourish, with Sandy Beach, Ocean Mist and Blue Denim ink. The images and sentiment are from the By the Sea stamp set, and stamped with Jet Black Amalgam ink. The sentiment was heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

I layered the top panel onto a piece of Ocean Mist cardstock and then onto a white card base.

The stencil, ink, stamps and cardstock are all by Gina K. Designs.

Emboss Resist Background

This month, the Gina K. Designs Monthly Mix Challenge is to create our own background. I chose to do a technique that is a favourite of mine - Emboss Resist.

I started with a white piece of cardstock and blended the yellow, orange and green ink all over it. After letting it dry completely, I stamped the flowers and leaves with VersaMark ink and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder. Then I blended on the brown ink over the entire card. The embossed flowers and leaves resisted the brown ink, and let the colours underneath show through.

I stamped another flower and a couple of leaves and die cut them with the coordinating dies. I stamped the sentiment, cut it out with an oval die and layered it onto a scalloped oval die cut.

After I had all the layers attached, I added a few rhinestones to add a bit of bling.

I used the following supplies:
Gina K. Designs: Dazzling Dahlia stamp set and coordinating dies
Little Thoughts stamp set, for the sentiment
Wild Dandelion, Tangerine Twist, Jelly Bean Green, Dark Chocolate ink
                             White, Sweet Mango cardstock
VersaMark ink

More Simple Focus

I liked making the last card so much that I decided to make another card for the Mod Squad Challenge - Simple Focus

This is another one layer card, so I used the Gina K. Designs White Heavy Base Weight cardstock. I used alcohol markers to colour the image, and I knew that they would not bleed through the cardstock.

All the supplies are from Gina K. Designs, except the markers.

The focal image is from the Rose Bouquet stamp set, and the sentiment is from the Dazzling Dahlia stamp set. These were both stamped with Jet Black Amalgam ink, which doesn't bleed or run when used with alcohol markers.

I coloured in the image with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers BP1, BP4, BP7, LG3, LG5, and JG1.

This was a quick and easy card to make and is a great design when you need a card in a hurry!

Simple Focus

This week, the Mod Squad Challenge is called Simple Focus. We can only have one image as our focal point, with no embellishments. We can also add a sentiment.

This is a very simple, one-layer card. The image and sentiment are from the Gina K. Designs Sending Love stamp set, and stamped with Gina K. Designs Jet Black Amalgam ink

I coloured the image with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers PL1, PL2, PL4, PL5, AG3, and AG4. I used Gina K. Designs Heavy Base Weight cardstock because I knew that the markers would not bleed through.

As you saw from my last post, I have switched over to Follow.it for notifications for people who follow my blog by email. I hope that it is working and you received an email telling you about this post.

Follow.it

Hi, everyone,

I don't have a card to share today, just some information.

I have been using Feedburner for people following my blog, but they are closing in July. I have started using Follow.it.

If you were already following my blog, you don't need to do anything, as I moved over all my followers. You should now get an email from Follow.it whenever I have a new post on my blog.

If you haven't been following my blog, but would like to, just enter your email in the top right hand box on my blog post.

I hope I have done everything correctly, and this works!

Thanks,

Dawn

June Scor-Pal More Than One Score

We're at the beginning of the month, which means a Scor-Pal More Than One Score Challenge! For the month of June, the theme is Masculine or Father's Day, or you can make an Anything Goes project as long as it follows the general rules.

Each month we will have a different theme and you will have a month to create and enter your projects. As well as the theme you will need to make "More Than One Score" and tell us where you used the Scor-Pal on your project. So a single fold card won't count but an Easel, Gatefold, Stair Step, etc, will :) Also we love to see your "Anything But a Card" projects, just as long as you make "More Than One Score".

There are lots of tutorials on the Scor-Pal website. This time I found one for a wine box. You can find it Here. It holds a small bottle of wine.

To make this box, you need a 12" x 12" piece of cardstock, a 1" x 8 1/2" piece of cardstock, your Scor-Pal, Scor-Tape and The Stacker. Then you can use patterned paper, stamps and other embellishments to decorate it.

Start with your 12" x 12" piece of cardstock, and score at 2 ½", 5 ½", 8", and 11". Turn the cardstock to the right and score at 2 1/2". This marks the bottom of your box. Cut along the score lines up to the 2 1/2" mark, and on the 11" score line, cut off the bottom flap. Crease along all the score lines and add tape along the edge flap and three of the bottom flaps. You'll notice in the picture that I put tape on all four bottom flaps. To fix my mistake, I just added a piece of patterned paper on the bottom!

I added the patterned paper to the front and back of the box. I stamped the wine bottle, coloured it, cut it out with a die and used the same die to cut out the shape from blue cardstock. Then I cut the blue cardstock in half and layered it behind the wine bottle layer.

To add the handle, I used a couple of brads. You can move the handle to get the wine bottle in and out.

I hope you will join us this month and play along with our challenge!
