This month, I have a card with a pop-up feature when it is opened.
To make this card, you will need:
Cardstock: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" heavy weight for card base
8 1/4" x 5 1/4" lighter weight for inside layer
Patterned paper: 6" x 5" for inside
Images to pop up (I used Gina K. Designs Woodland Friends stamp set and coordinating dies,
coloured with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers)
Decorations for the front and inside of the card (For the front, I used Gina K. Designs Harvest
Flourish stencil with Lovely Lavender ink for the background, and the Happy Birthday
to You stamp set for the balloons and sentiment. For the inside I used Penguin Palace
(now Sunbird Spark) Birthday Wishes stamp set with coordinating dies.)
Step 1
With the long side of the 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock at the top of your Scor-Pal, score at
4 1/4".
With the long side of the 8 1/4" x 5 1/4" piece of cardstock at the top of your Scor-Pal, score at
4 1/8".
The picture below shows the patterned paper. Place the paper with the patterned side down and
the 6" side at the top, and score at 4".
Step 2
Fold along the score lines of the patterned paper and the inside cardstock layer, placing the bump on the inside of the fold. Tape the patterned paper to the cardstock layer, matching the score lines.
Place the images that you want popped up where you want them, and make 2 small pencil marks for each image. This is where you will make the cuts for the pop-up feature.
Make cuts through both layers where you have made the marks. I made mine about 1 1/4" long, centered over the score line. From the back, push between the 2 cuts for each image to the inside of the card. This will give you a step shape that you will attach your shape to.
Add any stamping to the inside layer. To attach the inside layer to the card base, place Scor-Tape around the front edge of the inside piece, but don't go all the way to the score line. This will help the card to open properly.
I found that the easiest way to attach the layers was to place the inside layer and the card base together, fold it up, then carefully open the top while holding the bottom in place. Remove the tape liner, fold down the top, and press to adhere the tape. Turn the card over and repeat with the other side.
Step 5
Tape the images onto the pop-up steps. Attach any die cut embellishments to the inside and add your decoration to the front of the card.
